What is Consecrated Life?
Consecrated life is an extension of our Baptismal commitment and can be lived in a number of different ways, each distinct from the other forms but all including adherence to one or more of the evangelical counsels. Consecrated life can be lived either in community or individually, depending on the form. God calls some women and men to live their consecration as members of religious congregations. Each type of consecrated life has its own founding charism, or spirit, and its own rule and constitutions or plan of life approved by the Pope if a pontifical order or by the Bishop if within a diocese.
